Description

this gentleman is the elegant and genial hero of Charles Dickens "The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club"

Designer: Alicia Amison

The hand painted central scene depicts Windsor Castle - the central scene is framed by a Duck Egg Blue border which has been decorated with fine gilding and has been further embellished by six floral sprays that feature remarkable enamelling

It is marked QUART and on the other side of the handle VR 352 (which was the locale CHECK mark for Kent used from 1879 I understand - so the "then" Government equivalent to Weights and Measures has done a check that the measure was accurate) - which only means it was checked at that time - my research indicates the piece was a design used from the William IV era onwards - so most likely an 1840s piece

Overall a very nice piece for display within a collection

Larger examples of Royal Doulton seriesware like this are generally hard to find while plates are commonplace teapots, coffee pots and vases are generally statistical anomalies to survive some 100 years on!
